Amblewood Guesthouse

Wake up to the sound of the ocean in your unique and luxurious room of Amblewood Guest House. Enjoy the patio and a strong cup of coffee. Then breakfast before you head off to explore the Atlantic seaboard.

Amblewood is a bed and breakfast with traditional cottage charm, the typical green Hout Bay roof, a beach view out front and mountains and greenery to the back. Sound good?

The owners (your personal hosts) live on the property, so they can help wherever you need. You will be staying in one of the six en-suite bedrooms, each one styled differently. This is no cut and paste hotel. It's a boutique offering of class and elegance.

Each room has its own balcony/patio (bar one), as well as a TV, double beds, tea trays and the guilty pleasure/necessity of wi-fi. If you look outside you will see the pool and the beach, the choice is yours. Being in prime location, Amblewood stipulates a minimum two-night stay but you'll be wanting to stay longer anyway.

While Amblewood doesn’t offer any activities, you can get all the recommendations you need from the owners and your dear friend Google will be able to tell you if something is happening in the city.

Since you are in an urban area along the coast, the activities aren't typical "African tourist". Here you can go explore local markets, check out the local surf spots, try out creative coffee shops or rent a Harley to explore Chapmans Peak and we can recommend to hike the insane mountains around you. You won’t get a game drive on this side of the world, but World of Birds and the Monkey Park are in right there in your neighbourhood.

This is definitely something for people who enjoy the finer luxuries. A bit of urban life in a cosy bay, also a working harbour. Take it easy, snack on delicious baked goods from the market and polish them off on your balcony with a drink (guilt free) while you watch the sun set over the ocean.

Facilities

6 en-suite bedrooms individually styled, bathrooms with shower and most with bath tubs; TV with Netflix and various news channels, free high-speed WiFi; coffee and tea facilities; fridge; safe; haridryer; lounge area or seating (not in Inglenook and Bayview Rooms) and private balcony or patio (not in Bayview Room)

Swimming pool, deck and safe parking.

Breakfast is included.

Activities

From here you are well-positioned to explore the Atlantic seaboard. Take a drive to Chapman’s Peak and on to Camps Bay. Enjoy the wonder of Table Mountain and the Kirstenbosch Gardens as well as Cape Point.

You're close enough to head into town, if it's your wish to visit the waterfront, malls and some popular tourist attractions of Cape Town itself.

While the options are endless on the Western Cape, we suggest looking up specifics based on our more general suggestions.

Find yourself a local surfing instructor or bike rental company, ask at the info centre in town for hiking and cycling trails in and around Hout Bay, try out all the quirky coffee shops and markets and be on the lookout for any community events - there's always something happening.

Floreal House

A historical Cape Town building, once private house, Floreal House is close to the city centre with Table Mountain behind you. Welcome views of the Harbour and Table Bay.

Abbey Manor

It sounds like a British private school and looks like a Victorian town house. Built in 1905 when the world was a busy place. Las Vegas was founded, Einstein was busy publishing his brilliance, Cape Town’s City Hall was built and the biggest ever diamond was found in Pretoria. Called the Cullinan and over 3000 carats. Nice. Abbey Manor’s a bit of a gem too. Who wouldn’t want to rest on the slopes of Table Manor? But leave your tent in the car, it’s time for a bit of luxury.
