Summerwood Guest House is situated in a beautiful garden in suburban Stellenbosch - the epicentre of the Cape Winelands area - and with just nine rooms and plenty of space the accommodation is intimate or private as you prefer.
The garden is a colourful combination of old oak and stinkwood trees, indigenous Cape Floral fynbos and a perfectly pedicured lawn with a pool splash dash in the middle.
Stellenbosch residents, and indeed folks from the whole of the Cape Winelands area, have a penchant for floral patterns, antique furniture and old world charm. Summerwood Guest House makes no exception. Even your room telephone is of an era long gone.
Were it not so small you could call Summerwood a hotel, the nine rooms are large, bright and comfortably furnished. Each has a large en suite bathroom, percale linen, TV, air-conditioning, bar fridge, heating, ceiling fan, safe and telephone.
The breakfast room has a Mediterranean feel with terracotta tiles, rattan chairs and French doors opening onto the verandah and the large pool beyond; the lush garden is framed by drapes - yes, floral - making a rather pleasant way to eat your eggs and bacon.
9 en suite rooms with air conditioning, heating, ceiling fans, mini fridge, safe and telephone. The living area has a large lounge, dining room, verandah opening onto a lush garden with a large swimming pool in the middle. Off-street parking, wi-fi and and a work area take care of the business-end of your holiday.
Ann and Christian are your hosts and they are adept at helping you arrange your Cape Winelands activities: from hiking in the nearby Jonkershoek Nature Reserve to selecting the vineyards with the best 2004 Pintoge. In addition to wine tasting tours, the nature reserves and the charming town of Stellenbosch, there is a lot to do in the immediate area with enough variety to cater for all interests, ages and vagaries of the Cape weather.
