Kaisosi River Lodge

Kaisosi River Lodge is 7 km from Rundu, in the North East of Namibia. It’s not a beautiful town but it is on the river and is now the main economic hub of the Kavango region. The area is known for its wood carvings.

This is a very different landscape to the sand dunes and nothingness of coastal Namibia. Here there are green fields and trees as you’re on the edge of the Caprivi Strip.

You can sit in this lodge and watch Mokoro canoes ferrying people to and fro. Hippos and crocs frequent the river. Count them and wave to Angola. A fine place to break up the journey between the Caprivi Strip and Grootfontein or Etosha.

A variety of options. Thatched chalets, which are available as single, double or family units, all with en-suite bathrooms.

There are 8 standard twin ones with showers and air conditioning. And 8 luxury ones. Four of these are triples with bath, air conditioning and TV and four are family rooms with one double bed, one single bed and one sleeper couch, with bath, air conditioning and TV.

There’s also a campsite which caters for individuals and groups. 16 sites with private shower and toilet facilities. Private is great but they are basic. There’s electricity, hot and cold water, a braai area. You’ll be between big trees and on a lawn which is very civilised. Chickens and a peacock may pop by.

Wi-Fi; restaurant; parking; braai/barbecue; bar; natural swimming pool; indoor fireplace

The lodge will take you on a sundowner cruise every evening. They can also arrange a floating breakfast on the river. You can go fishing, go on a cultural village trip or take a river cruise. Guided fishing trips can be arranged.

And of course you’re not far from the Caprivi. And besides the stunning array of animals who rather love this lush stretch it’s also well known for its bird life. Over 500 resident and migratory species. Coucal, egret, firefinch. And bee eaters. Red beauties nesting in great colonies along the riverbanks.

Shametu River Lodge

Picture yourself as The Mariner, Kevin Costner's anti hero, meandering through the water. Think mokoro rather than a trimaran, river rather than sea. This is for those of you that like the waterworld of Africa. But whereas the film's been described as a mess masquerading as a movie you'll exit this lodge feeling calm, chilled and chipper.

Camp Kwando

Camp Kwando is a rustic and relaxed riverside lodge with three types of accommodation: camping, island chalets and tree houses. The camp has a shaded swimming pool and a thatched lounge, restaurant and bar that open onto the river.

Nunda River Lodge

Situated in the verdant region of Caprivi, seven furnished Meru tents and three traditional thatched chalets sit along the river bank surrounded by shady trees and manicured gardens.
