The Old House
Where are you? This is the north-eastern corner of Botswana in the Chobe region. Kasane is the closest town to The Old House, and it's a place where four countries meet - Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Zambia. This is an ideal base if you're craving the wild, wildlife. On land and on water.
The The Old House is small and family owned. Think quirky, rustic. Intimate and personal but not vast luxury. But then, you don't come to Botswana to stay in your room. Expect a clean, comfortable base and you'll love it. And remember you're in a fairly remote part of Planet Earth so while they do have the internet, it's not warp speed. What is great, however, is the popular restaurant and bar for breakfast, lunch, dinner and everything in between, during and after. They claim to have the best pizzas in town, which, after a brief foray around the place pretty obvious; that said, we've heard talk their homemade blueberry muffins are the cat's pyjamas.
The Old House has double, twin and family rooms - the latter are for four people. Try and go for a room facing the garden as the street side can be noisy - there's a lively bar across the road.
Plus the garden welcomes wandering mongoose and warthog, both discerning, returning guests.
All rooms are air conditioned but this can be temperamental. The rooms are small with small, en suite bathrooms. Homely touches include the headboards which have been hand painted. There are tea & coffee making facilities, a small electronic safe and mosquito nets.

Clearly, a wise choice would be to book a safari and game drive into Chobe National Park. You’re 10 minutes away and you can see a huge variety in a short space of time.
You can book a full day safari in the lodge’s fully equipped game drive vehicle. There’s also the option of a three hour game drive.
The park has a magnificent array of wildlife and bird life too.
Or go on a boat safari. The lodge has a double decker cruise boat. The guides know their stuff and will help you find game as well as talk to you about the fauna and flora. Animal wise, think cheetah, wild dog, lion, leopard and hyena. Large herds of elephant and buffalo also roam the area. Sadly, the rhino population has been decimated. Bird wise, there are over 560 recorded species.
The lodge can also help you organise day trips across the border to the Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. This is one of the world's natural wonders. You can go white water rafting, take a helicopter flip or just stand in awe of that high and mighty water crashing down.
Or stay closer to home. Kasane is ideal for a fishing safari - the town sits along the south bank of the Chobe River.
You'll also be within walking distance to shops and you can visit the Hot Spring. Check out the historical Baobab tree too.
