As unassuming as a Damara lean-to and as luxurious as a big-city hotel, Camp Kipwe is another iconic Namibian safari lodge from the ingenious creators of Onguma Tented Camp and Mowani Mountain Camp.
In design Camp Kipwe embraces the distinctive Damaraland scenery: massive red-purple granite boulders piled atop each other form inselbergs separated by carpets of blonde grass peppered with acacia trees.
While every item of furniture and every detail of the decor and construction at Camp Kipwe bears a striking resemblance to the striking scenery of the Aba Huab River Valley, the luxury offered within these wobbly walls raises the royal finger to the stark aridity of Damaraland's endless plains.
Built of stone, thatch and an impressive collection of slightly off-straight tree trunks and branches, Camp Kipwe is at once charming, authentic and something unique in this world of carbon-copied safari lodges.
Camp Kipwe is near Twyfelfontein in Damaraland, Namibia: a place of singular beauty and unimaginable tranquillity. The lodge has just nine dome-suites with polished floors, en suite bathrooms partially open and built into the enclosing boulders. A large deck opens out to the glorious view across the valley. The living area is a collection of larger domes, split level decks, a rock pool, lounge, dining area and curio shop.
9 bungalows, of which 2 are family rooms plus 1 suite built into the granite boulders with thatch, trees, wooden decking and natural stone; en suite bathrooms with hot running water and flushing toilets; air-conditioning; hairdryer; safe; large private balcony overlooking the Abu Huab Valley; lounge, bar, dining area and viewing deck; swimming pool built into the rocks; curio shop; airstrip
Family rooms can accommodate 2 children in an outside tent.
The suite has everything a bungalow has plus a minibar; satellite TV & laundry service
Watch this space - there are 2 new suites planned for 2021. Hooray!
Damaraland is about nature, scenery and rare desert-adapted wildlife. Activities at Camp Kipwe include scenic tours of the area and visits to the Twyfelfontein rock art; guided walks (pre-arranged on arrival); self-guided walks and game drives in search of the desert-adapted elephant and chance encounters with several species of hardy animals and birds that thrive in Damaraland.
Twyfelfontein Country Lodge camouflaged against a rocky outcrop, is one of the best located lodges to the sights of the area in Damaraland. The pool an equally important selling point as is the buffet spread you can expect.
Doro Nawas in the Abu-Huab River valley is the spot from which to explore Twyfelfontein or search for elephants. Push your bed out onto your private verandah to sleep under the stars of Damaraland.
Grootberg Lodge in Damaraland, undoubtedly has one of the best views in Namibia. The Grootberg Plateau the perfect setting for sunrise and sunset and you’re right there on your private deck to take it in.
I cannot say enough about this great company and Ashlee herself... best honeymoon we could have wished for!
