Knysna River Club
Knysna is a stunner. Full of energy. A chatty little town sitting, smiling, on South Africa's only National Lake. It’s a protected marine reserve known locally as 'The Lagoon'.
They farms oysters in this here lagoon. Salty, velvety Indian Ocean oysters. You might get lucky and find a pearl - although the bling types are found further along the coast near Algoa Bay. Never mind. Eat it instead. Whilst supping champagne. Then head to the Kynsna River Club and celebrate your marvellous day.
Self-catering log chalets in the heart of the Garden Route. You’re near the water too, on the edge of the Knysna Lagoon. There is so much to do in this area. From high adrenaline stuff like sky diving to bird watching. Not forgetting the lagoon. Loving the lagoon.
There are Garden Chalets and Lagoon Chalets. The latter offer lovely views and the resort is surrounded by trees and gardens.
Two options here. There are one bedroom chalets with one bathroom. Two adults sleep in the bedroom, two children under 10 can sleep on the sleeper couch.
Then there are the two bedroom chalets. These also have one bathroom. These are for good for either two couples or one couple and two children. Two extra guests can crash out on a double sleeper couch in the lounge. Make sure you know them. Baboons not invited.
The Terrace Restaurant; swimming pool; children’s pool; outdoor jacuzzi; WiFi; bicycles; DVDs; games room with sauna, pool table, playstation, air hockey and table tennis; canoes; private boat moorings
The lagoon is right there and you can take one of the club’s canoes and just go or shoot off down the Knysna River. Parts of it are restricted to non-motorised craft. Watch what you’re doing with that oar. Good grief.
You can also dive in the lagoon. There’s a wreck to explore - the Paquita wreck and at Thesen's Jetty you might see the rare Knysna seahorse.
Or just enjoy the beaches. The Garden Route has some of the best.
The Knysna Elephant Park is nearby and Monkeyland is 30 minutes from Knysna. This is a primate sanctuary and the world's only multi-species, free roaming one.
Birds of Eden is the largest free flight bird aviary in the world. Its two hectare dome spans a gorge of indigenous forest and houses over 100 species of birds.
You’re close to the Knysna Waterfront - it’s about 1.5km away. Lots of restaurants, cafés and shops, and there’s the Woodmill Lane Shopping Centre which also has arts and crafts galleries.
So all in all, this place is good for all ages, all tastes and all sunny souls.

De Denne Guest House
Cadbury’s got his eye on you. And it’s a big one. He’s got the largest peeper of any land animal. And Suzie’s his missus so watch your step. Johan and Louise Keller are billed as the owners but what’s the bet their resident counterparts are the real deal here? This is a working farm. An ostrich one. Cadbury and Suzie are great, big, flightless birds. And probably top dogs.
