Etosha. A salt pan so large it rates as a saline desert in its own right. This land is herbivore/carnivore galore. And the itinerary is good for a quick trip or as an add-on to another one. Easy to find your way around, it’s an excellent self drive option. You’ll need a decent car though as, although the main road is fine, the spin offs are rather ropey. And go slow, you’ll see more. Drive to a waterhole and let the animals come to you.

Itinerary Summary

Itinerary Details

Day 1: Windhoek ( 1 night )

Time to get sorted. You’ll be met by the car rental company and taken to their offices. Get the admin done and then you’ll meet one of our reps who will give you your travel documents. You’re done.

On the way:
Windhoek is bang in the middle of Namibia in a long valley with mountains on either side. It’s the capital and the only proclaimed city.

When you're there:
Go for a walk and you’ll see lots of examples of historical architecture from German times. You could also check out the National Art Gallery, the National Botanical Gardens or the National Theatre. Go for a meal in National Dress (joke) and have an early night. Big day tomorrow.

Day 2 & 3: Etosha National Park ( 2 nights )

Let the road trip commence. Windhoek to Etosha South. 420km, 5-6 hours. Roads out of the capital are easy to navigate. You’re on your way to one of Africa’s great game parks. 114 species of mammals, 340 species of birds, living life on the naked landscapes of Etosha National Park. Let the animal bounty of Namibia reveal itself, one by one.

On the way:
Keep in mind that being spontaneous is immensely enjoyable, so build time for freedom into the route. You’ll go via Okahandja - stop and check out the largest, local wood carvers market in Namibia. Continue north via Otjiwarongo and Outjo to the southern side of the park.

When you're there:
You’ve arrived. First things first. Pay your entrance fee. Pop into the local shop and top up your stash of drinks and snacks. Now, ask them for a map - it might be under the counter but you’ll want one. Not only will it show you all the waterholes, it has illustrations and details about the animals and birds. Start exploring. Self drive it or, if you feel like a rest, the lodge can organise a guided game drive as an optional extra. You’ll be here for 2 nights so plan it however you fancy.

When you're there:
Transfer to the airport to catch your flight. You’ll need to be there 2 hours prior to departure. Remember it’s about an hours from town, so factor that in.
