An hour's drive from Mariental in the south of the Kalahari, you'll find the Bagatelle Kalahari Game Reserve. A place of iconic red sand dunes and an open shrub savannah dotted with Acacia trees. On the reserve - springbok, gemsbok, zebras, ostrich, meerkats, cheetah, the Bagatelle Kalahari Game Lodge and the campsites (a hefty stroll from there).
Bagatelle has five individual campsites and there’s lots of space between them - great for groups who want privacy.
They’re all set between the red sand dunes with a large tree on each so you’ll get a touch of shade.
You’ll have your own ablution block as well - toilet, shower, washbasin. Nothing fancy, they’re little solar powered sheds which may require your patience. There is also a utility table and a sink for cooking.
Kids will love it. The insects in the long grass are impressive. It’s a proper “old school” return to nature experience. They can explore and play in the sand (bring their flip flops/thongs as that sand can get as red hot as those dunes) and you might get visited by cows at night.
Campsite 1 might be the one to go for if you have very young children as it’s only about a 1km walk back to the main lodge.
And you’ll want to head up there as all campers are allowed to use the main lodge and swimming pool.
Five individual campsites with private ablutions, shower and washbasin (solar heated water); barbeque area; table and wash up area for cooking.
At the lodge: swimming pool; restaurant (meals must be pre-booked); curio shop and WiFi.
Activities can be booked with the lodge. Always recommended to pre-book where possible to ensure availability.
Horse riding; cheetah feeding; Bushmen walks and nature drives.
