Oppi-koppi Restcamp is a laid-back and convenient stopover in Kamanjab en route to Etosha via the western gate at Galton or further north into Kaokoland.
Accommodation is in small chalets with tin roofs and stone walls and all have en suite bathrooms with a shower (some have baths as well). The furniture is basic at best with an air of the backpackers' hostel but you can expect a comfortable night's rest all the same.
The restaurant area is light and spacious and presided over by the trophies of some of very large animals the likes of which are found on your menu. This is hunting country so vegetarians and the squeamish need not apply. The popular bar - in a conversation-enhancing horseshoe shape - is equally parochial with a strong emphasis on sport and the Blue Bulls rugby team in particular.
The Oppi-koppi campsite is well-maintained with shaded sites all with electricity and water; the ablutions are spotless and well-lit and, as a camper, you also have full access to the swimming pool, bar and restaurant.
If you're looking to economise on stopover nights to stretch your budget for the big destinations, Oppi-koppi fits the bill. Expect simple, home-grown hospitality and you won't be disappointed; anticipate a rowdy night in the pub rubbing shoulders with the locals and you will be delighted.
