Rhinos, elephants, whales and coelacanths. The world's oldest, biggest, most impressive mammals - and coelacanth who is a fish. But don't hold it against him. He's the oldest one swimming the oceans today. Mates with the dinosaurs, he was thought to be extinct until he was spotted again in 1938.
What's so unusual is this entire crew share an ecosystem and it's here. In glorious St Lucia. Man has taken a shine to this place too. 130,000 years after the first lot turned up, people are still deciding this is the place to be. The owners of Forest Villas opened their doors in 2017.
It's in the town of St Lucia, iSimangaliso world heritage site. Forest Villas isn't huge but it's smart and stylish and the owners have a lot of experience, having worked in the industry for years. St Lucia is in the North East of Zululand, two and a half hours from Durban. It's a hub for 1,200 Nile crocodiles and 800 hippopotami. That's not the correct plural but it sure sounds sweet. Just don't say it to their faces. Saying that, this lot are used to humans so they might let you take a selfie. But you'd be a fool to consider such a ghastly thing. Or dead damn quick. Seriously though, this is a decent place to make your base.
17 air conditioned en-suite shower rooms. All have a terrace with garden view. Self catering family units available too. And it's all very lush with lots of vegetation around the pool and decked walkways to get you there.

And the Indian Ocean is right there with turtles on the beach in summer and whale sharks in the sea.
