With handmade chalets with adobe walls, thatched roofs and rough-hewn timber furniture aboard a large deck hovering above the Delta marshland, Mapula is a well-camouflaged luxury safari lodge.
Mapula is a small, remote and rustic safari lodge in a private concession in the Okavango Delta. Accommodation is in charming thatch chalets on stilts in a thicket of African hardwoods and its ecological footprint is very small indeed - read limited electricity supply, solar-heated water and a refreshing absence of modern trappings.
Your room looks out over the swampy floodplains of the Okavango Delta and the Moremi Game Reserve. The main living area is a large deck with open sides and a thatched covering keeping the lounge and dining areas well chilled. In front is an open deck and the scene of many a great dinner while the wildlife eases into the picture for the duration of your stay.
While the accommodation may be on the rustic side - we believe this enhances the adventure if you're prepared for it - you are here for the wildlife, the birdlife, the untouched beauty of the African wilderness for which Mapula Lodge gets the full five stars.
Mapula is a year-round camp in a 12,000ha private reserve featuring the complete range of safari activities: day and night game drives, walking safaris, mokoro water safaris, birding, motorboat safaris and fishing. Wildlife includes elephant, lion, hippos, crocs and plenty of plains game while the birdlife in this watery wilderness is not surprisingly prolific.
Full board accommodation in 9 chalets including a family unit; en suite bathrooms with zinc tub and outdoor shower; hot running water; private balcony with lagoon view; covered sitting area; main living area with lounge and dining area, game viewing deck and swimming pool; laundry; transfers
Game drives in the private concession, night drives, walking safaris, mokoro trails, birding, fishing and boating (water levels allowing)
