Pom Pom Camp
Being in a private concession in the Okavango Delta means Pom Pom Camp and its (maximum) 18 guests have exclusive access to Africa's most pristine and unspoilt wilderness area.
Pom Pom Camp is a small, intimate and comfortable safari lodge in an amazing location inside the Okavango Delta. Surrounded by permanent waterways and overlooking a lagoon - fringed with dreamy Ilala Palms and papyrus - Pom Pom Camp offers all the exclusivity of many dearer luxury safari lodges in the delta.
The rooms are Meru-styled East African safari tents: an elevated wooden deck supports a large canvas awning beneath which another canvas tent is stretched explorer-style beneath a dense grove of trees. The deck extends over the water to form a private, shady balcony and out back an en suite bathroom with a roofless - though completely private - shower.
Flying over the delta to land at Pom Pom Camp, you will get an idea of just how remote this safari lodge is. And then you'll marvel at how relative luxury presides in such wild and raw circumstances. The living area has a lovely fireside gathering area, a covered high table dining area and comfortable chairs dotted about looking out through the open-sided thatched structure to the amazing Okavango Delta scenery that starts beneath your feet and extends as far as Earth's curvature will allow - or the nearest elephant.
Situated in the heart of Okavango Delta, on the Xudum River system, western border of Moremi Game Reserve; 9 luxury tents (all with en suite showers, one with a bath overlooking the lagoon); family tent for families with children 8yrs and older; swimming pool, lounge, bar and dining areas; curio shop; air strip (20 minutes flying time from Maun); mokoro rides; fishing trips; game drives (day and night with driver / guide and tracker); guided nature walks (seasonal availability); birdwatching
The private concession, the vast wilderness and the amazing game guides conspire to provide you with an out-of-this-world wildlife safari experience: the real reason you've saved all those food stamps to go to Africa.
Safari activities include both water experiences - on mekoro dugout canoes and motorboats - and land experiences with game drives, night drives and seasonal walking safaris.
Birdlife is spectacular with African jacanas trotting across the lilly pads, Pels fishing owl, the nimble African skimmer, giant eagle owls, kingfishers and many others to enjoy from the boat or the bar - or your bedroom, or the pool…
Though the safari is more about nature here - with beautiful scenery and an amazing kaleidoscope of life, the game viewing is surprisingly good with most of the African animals to be seen including: baboon, black-backed jackal, cheetah, dwarf mongoose, elephant, giraffe, hippo, honey badger, hyena, impala, lechwe, leopard, lion, monkey, pangolin, porcupine, side – striped jackal, spotted – necked otter, tsessebe, warthog, wild dog, wildebeest and zebra.
