Desert Hills Glamping Camp
As you traverse the endless Namib look for a ridge hiding a valley. Isolated, private. Beyond are the stark, stark desert plains. Sossusvlei is calling. Sand whispering. Hot, heady air. This is your base, your haven, your place to glamp. You're a remote traveller now so pack up the 4x4 or you won't make it in.
Desert Hills Glamping Camp is a modern-looking joint that opened in May 2018. It’s on a private farm about one and half kilometres from Desert Hills Lodge. A secluded spot with vast views.
Basic level luxury, maximum exposure to nature. It’s green and eco friendly - electricity is partially generated by solar energy, water supplied by a solar-driven pump.
Breakfast and dinner are provided. Meals are prepared outdoors on an open fire. Dinner sounds marvellously civilised. Three courses, buffet-style.
And all this 24km south-east of Sesriem, the entrance to Sossusvlei Dunes. If you're going out early grab a picnic pack.
The main area is in a large modern tent. You know it's big because it houses a lounge and a bar. Outside is a shaded patio and a fire pit. Meals are served up with a large helping of view. Expect a whopper of a panorama.
There are 10 twin or double tents and 1 family tent. There's a decent gap between them but they're all within easy reach of the main facilities. Wooden style frames with canvas and fly gauze. There's a fan to help when it's hot. En suite shower room, washbasin and a flushing toilet in a separate room. 220V electricity and a large terrace just outside. Which is a rather spectacular place to wile away an afternoon. Good work. Exceedingly good work.
11 tents en-suite; fan; safe; large mess tent with lounge; small bar area; dining area; outside shaded patio area; fire pit; wooden deck with pool ; cellphone coverage across the camp; WiFi at the main area; secure parking; transfers into camp can be arranged on request from nearby Desert Hills Lodge.
You have the whole of the Namib Naukluft National Park on your doorstep.
The camp arranges guided trips to Sossusvlei as well as sundowner drives. Ah, the dunes...highlights include Dune 45, Deadvlei and Sesriem Canyon.
Try and climb. It's hard, hard work. You sink, you sweat, you carry on. But the world sure looks amazing here. Different. Sandy. Red. Orange. Yellow. And not an ice cream van in sight.

The Elegant Desert Lodge
On approaching Elegant Desert Lodge, about 40km from Sesriem, the first thing you will notice is that it’s not exactly all that elegant. In fact it’s a fairly solid, stone-built, thatched-roofed monolith in the typical farmstead style of the early Dutch settler.
