BüllsPort Guest Farm

The BuellsPort Guest Farm is at the foot of the Naukluft Mountains. It’s one of the oldest farms in Namibia and it’s still a working one. 10,000 hectares and approximately 170 cattle. And there are horses too. Stunners bred for jumping and dressage.

The Naukluft Mountains. Mighty beasts. Nearly 2000 metres high. They form the eastern chunk of the Namib Naukluft National Park. And they’re full of water. There it is, deep in underground caverns. Cold, cold water. Replenishing many a local gorge. Animals think water’s nice too. And plants. And birds. Well, birds tend to prefer a beer. Saying that, raptors usually go for a dram of whisky. And baboons. Don’t ask. Ah, cheers to you spectacular mountains. Mountains of my heart. Gorge of my glory and glory be to gorge. Any idea where you are? Any idea what you’re drinking? You’re 250km southwest of Windhoek. And you’re drunk on nature. Yeah, right.

14 rooms - there are junior suites, two triple rooms and two family units. The bathroom/shower has a separate toilet.

Facilities

Swimming pool; air conditioning; ceiling fans; laundry service; free WIFI in public areas; limited cellphone reception; power220V AC; dining room; patio; garden

Activities

First, have a tour to experience how a working Namibian farm operates.

There’s a horse stud. They breed Namibian Warmblood horses and you can have lessons or go on day treks. Sunrise and sunset ones too.

And, of course, you’re in the mountains so it’s great for hiking and cycling. There are a number of well marked trails which you can follow, free of charge. The 3km Kudu trail is good if you want to see birds. The Tsondab river is right there and birds such as goshawk, hammerkop, hoepoe and plover just hang out. The zebra trail is 9km. There are also walks to a rock arch and what they call the ‘quiver tree gorge hike’. There are walks for all abilities, and you can go with or without a guide.

If you want to venture further, there are excursions to Sossusvlei.
