South Luangwa National Park

Kutandala Camp

Four-posters, free-standing baths, massages and manicured gardens... Out! Kutandala Camp in the North Luangwa National Park is the original, pure, unadorned African bush safari experience.

The North Luangwa Park is fearsomely exclusive. A handful of semi-permanent, seasonal camps operate in the park just north of its well-trodden southern counterpart, the South Luangwa National Park, and Kutandala Camp exalts the raw wilderness by doing very little.

Rod is your guide. Guz is your chef. Experts in their chosen destinies, together they offer a perfectly paired combination of fascinating wildlife experience and astonishingly good food.

Rod takes you on fascinating walking safaris in the North Luangwa Park - which is big game country so you're on full alert all the way - stopping to share his infinite knowledge of and to infect you with his love of the African bush.

The wildlife may be more elusive here than in the South Luangwa but your senses are so filled with the sights, sounds, smells, noises and textures of Africa that you will soon see all creatures, great and small, as equal and vital components of the complex ecosystem. Now that's a safari.

Accommodation - you don't have to totally rough it - is in just four massive reed and thatch suites spread out along the Mwaleshi River beneath an avenue of mahogany trees. The rooms have private verandas and en suite bathrooms with flushing toilets and hot showers.
