A'Zambezi River Lodge

Wake up to hippo munching on the lawns outside your room, or watch a family of warthog scurry around looking for tasty morsels of food - these are the things you can expect at A'Zambezi River Lodge. And more.

A'Zambezi River Lodge is a five-minute drive from the mighty Victoria Falls, right on the edge of the upper Zambezi – 'upper' referring to its relation to the falls - and bordering on the Zambezi National Park.

Built in two crescent-shaped wings facing the river, the 83 en-suite rooms have balconies or terraces which either overlook the warthog-tended gardens, or the Zambezi River. Titch Shumba - the GM of A'Zambezi and a well-known character in the hospitality industry - has a philosophy which he applies to everything he does at the lodge: get it right, the first time. And he's got it right with the friendly staff and immaculate grounds.

The lodge has two restaurants: the Amulonga at the river's edge is an award-winning restaurant which offers traditional dishes - warthog being amongst the favourites. Sebastian's, named after the resident hippo, offers a la carte meals and incredible views over the river with the Victoria Falls plume as a backdrop. Every night you are also treated to traditional music, song and dance while you eat; this is something which you have to see.

The Reading Room is a sanctuary if you are looking for a quiet place out of the heat, you can use this room to catch-up on some emails or to relax with a book before dinner.

Experience the falls from above in a helicopter or take a forest walk on the edge of the falls. There are numerous adrenalin fuelled activities like bungee jumping and white water rafting if that is what you are after. Nightly singing and dancing by locals is something which you should not miss.
